In response to my recent posts there has been a massive outpouring of nurses, pharmacists, dentists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and doctors who are burnout, frustrated, and frankly suffering.

I know this feeling well and felt the same way for nearly all ten years I worked in the Emergency Room. I still remember significantly contemplating pursuing a critical care fellowship after residency because I was already disillusioned by the reality of Emergency Medicine practice. Perhaps being a Critical Care physician would have staved off (or prevented) my burnout, perhaps not. I can't spend the mental energy to play the "what if" game.

The reality is being a healthcare professional in our current U.S. healthcare system is unsustainable for most and creates a significant internal conflict. We all went into medicine (and dentistry) to help people. We feel guilty for not wanting to continue this pursuit. However, taking care of patients, or taking care of patients in the manner that you have been doing so, is not the only way to make an impact in the world. This was a realization that was very hard for me to accept, especially because when I was younger I could not think of a more noble pursuit than being an ER doctor. I was going to be Anthony Edwards and George Clooney from the show "ER" saving patients on the reg. Although I made a true difference from time to time, it was rare, and counteracted by the many forces that propagate burnout in healthcare.

My colleagues are suffering like I was and they want help. I am here to share the knowledge and tools that I have gained over the years to help those step into the non-clinical realm. Every tool or service I offer is something that I am proud of and wished I had available to me when I needed a way out. This is what I offer:

1) The ultimate resume guide: Although geared to physicians, it provides essential tips for anyone in healthcare who is looking for a non-clinical job.

2) Workshops on non-clinical jobs: My first intro workshop is being held on Monday September 23rd. Registration is full but I plan to make the material available for purchase for those who could not attend.

3) Individual career strategy sessions: One-on-one sessions with me where we delve into your background, experience, and the non-clinical jobs that are the best fit for you. I help my clients with resume writing, finding relevant jobs (not as easy as you think), and strategies to get an interview.
